The history of the development of the automotive industry in Russia begins as early as during the times of the Russian Empire, when the first domestic cars were produced. In the Soviet Union, the automotive industry was actively developing, especially during the period of industrialization in the 1930s. During this time, such well-known car brands as "Moskvich" and "Volga" were created. After World War II, the automotive industry continued to develop, with new models and technologies being introduced. In the 1960s, the production of passenger cars "Zhiguli" began, which became a symbol of that time. In the post-Soviet period, the automotive industry in Russia faced serious challenges, but thanks to state support and modernization of production, many factories managed to survive and continue their operations. Today, the automotive industry in Russia is represented by such brands as "Lada", "UAZ" and "KAMAZ", which successfully compete both on the domestic and international markets.
