A Masterpiece of Soviet Architecture In 1970, 34 years after Alexander Tamanyan's death, the Soviet Union returned to the idea of building the Cascade using the project drafted by the city's chief architect, Jim Torosyan, as well as by Sargis Gurzadyan and Aslan Mkhitaryan. The structure consists of 572 steps and is divided into five levels, each adorned with sculptures, flower beds, and intricate stone carvings. While climbing, visitors can enjoy panoramic views of Yerevan, which become even more impressive as they ascend. An Unfinished Vision Although the Cascade remains one of the most visited places in Armenia, it is technically unfinished. Originally, the design included an upper-level complex with a cultural center, but due to the collapse of the Soviet Union in 1991, construction was halted. Today, the unfinished upper levels remain a reminder of the ambitious vision that was never fully realized.
