[Презентация] Transport System of the Republic of Belarus: Status and its Importance in the Development of the Country A transport system is the most important link in the economic and social infrastructure of a country and is designed to meet the needs of the population for transportations and services, the vital activity of all sectors of the economy and the national security of the state in a timely and qualitative manner A transport system unites the following types of transport: automobile, railway, water, air, pipeline, urban electric and underground. Railway transport is one of the most important elements of the transport system of the Republic of Belarus. The Belarusian railway is a modern, well-developed transport system consisting of six branches: Minsk, Baranovichi, Brest, Gomel, Mogilev and Vitebsk. The operational length of railway tracks is 5.5 thousand kilometres. Water transport. Shipping in Belarus is carried out by inland waterways along the Dnieper, Berezina, Sozh, Pripyat, Western Dvina, Neman, Dnieper-Bug and Mikashevichi canals. The total length of inland waterways of the Republic of Belarus is 2067.4 kilometres, including 1128.1 kilometres with guaranteed depths. There are 835 ships registered in the State Ship Register of the Republic of Belarus, including 28 passenger ships. Air transport in Belarus is a complex of organisations engaged in passenger and cargo transportation by air both inside and outside the country. The air transport of the Republic of Belarus includes Belavia National Airlines, Grodno Airlines, Minsk National Airport, Transaviaexport Airlines, Belaeronavigatsia, as well as republican organisations of non-state form of ownership. Road transport occupies the leading place in the transport system of the Republic of Belarus in terms of passenger and freight traffic. The share of road transport in the total volume of cargo transportation by all types of transport (excluding pipeline transport) is approximately 52.5%. According to the data of the Traffic Police Department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Republic of Belarus about 4.4 million units of motor vehicles and their trailers, including about 3.7 million passenger cars, were registered in the structural units of the Traffic Police. Urban transport in the Republic of Belarus is an important element of the transport infrastructure that ensures the movement of the population in large cities and towns. It includes several types of transport: buses, trolleybuses, metro and urban electric trains.
